Welcome back, Bachelorette Nation!!! It’s been a few months since Arie broke Becca’s heart but you know ABC couldn’t wait until the second segment to reopen that wound. It’s night one so let’s get to know the guys and a little bit more about Becca.
Becca is ready to “do the damn thing”
ABC opens up on images of Becca getting her heart broken by Arie, because 45 minutes of it during the finale wasn’t enough. We quickly move into the standard premiere package of shots – behind the scenes of her photo shoot, talking with her family and taking a pensive walk.
We’re next treated to the traditional advice session with former Bachelorettes JoJo, Rachel and Kaitlyn. As they begin talking about what to expect, it should be clear to everyone that this season and this premiere specifically is going be all about trashing Arie. It’s pretty customary for the past participants to remain active in the Bachelor family of shows but this can’t be fun for Arie or Lauren. Ok, I’m over it again.
The limos and first impressions
Quickly we move into the limo entrances and get this season moving in earnest. Most of the entrances were pretty straight forward and followed the outline provided to us in the bios. While a few of the guys stood out, one wins our “first impression rose” for providing the most laughs and that’s Jordan the male model. My goodness, people! The amount of shade this guy was throwing at everyone’s sartorial choices during his interviews was legendary. Who knew it could be so offensive to not wear socks or have an open collar!
Next, it’s time for some one on one time. Taking this uber literally, Christon wastes no time in showing off his talents and dunks on Becca. Seeing his past with the Harlem Globetrotters gave us hope for some interesting scenes and tonight did not disappoint!
In maybe the least creative move in ABC producer history, Clay’s one on one time is spent playing with… clay. The incredibly lazy activity choice aside, Clay seems awesome from his night one scenes and the package ABC put together for his intro. We’re hoping he sticks around.
One guy who definitely looks like a contender is Garrett who pulls the first impression rose. Not bad for a guy who rolled up in a mini van and did a Chris Farley / Matt Foley impression in the same episode. He just feels like the type of guy that sticks around so we’ll be seeing more of him I’m sure.
Night one drama
It wouldn’t be “The Bachelorette” if we didn’t get some ginned up drama every week. This week, we had two sort of random incidents that sort of came out of left field. One was a text message that Chris received from Chase’s ex letting him know that Chase was not there for “the right reasons.” Oh for crying out loud. This gets weird fast and *spoiler alert* this doesn’t end well.
The other drama we had to deal with was Jake – the guy who Becca knew from Minneapolis got pulled aside for a chat. Becca cuts to the chase and tells him they’ve hung out before and there was never any interest from either side. She can’t be sure that he’s “here for the right reasons” and it is something she doesn’t want to question. Jake gets sent home and my Ryan Reynolds doppelganger jokes went home with him.
The Rose Ceremony
It’s night one which means it’s next to impossible to keep track of who’s who and who is getting sent home. Basically, everyone who you didn’t meet – got sent home. The one exception was Joe the grocer who seems like a nice guy. The others we bid farewell to are Kamil, Chase, Darius, Grant, and Christian.
